BENEFITS OF TECHNOLOGY IN SERVICE DELIVERY
Technology keeps on evolving every day and our lives have been made easier through its use. In most cases, it is associated with the technical aspect of engineering, electrical, automobile, or heavy industrial use as a reference. In the first world, delivery service was an established industry prior to the advent of the internet. The internet opened up endless possibilities that are still a constant feature today. Who thought, you can buy your everyday consumables from the comfort of your seat through an interface on your computer?
Delivery business has been greatly enhanced by the use of technology. Most people will consider the idea of shopping online a delight and sometimes a well-deserved break from running up and down. Now a fully-fledged industry, we can make a few observations on how technology is at the core and the benefits of its incorporation in service delivery.
1. Convenience.
This is the greatest aspect of service delivery; it is the first thing that comes to mind when most people are asked about making purchases online. Waking up in the morning maybe during a weekend and every bone in your body is aching, you then realize one or two essential things for your weekend use are missing. You feel inconvenienced but the thought of picking up your phone and calling a delivery guy or accessing the portal of your favourite shopping app is very liberating. At this point, plans for going out to shop are immediately cancelled and that time can be used to do something else more productive.
2. You can buy from anywhere.
As our cities grow bigger and more populated, people are increasingly moving away from the Central Business District (CBD) in search of affordable housing and serene environments. Staying away from the hustle and bustle of the city is becoming more and more of the norm. A few years back most individuals preferred to stay in the vicinity of the city to be able to easily access products and services. With the advent of delivery services, irrespective of where you reside, anything you want is a click or a phone call away.
3. All products don’t have to be under one roof.
“I need to buy a lot of things today, how will I manage?” Nowadays if you make such a statement you are most likely to get a response advising you to buy online and get the stuff delivered to your doorstep. Long gone are the days someone would hop from one shop to another spending almost an entire day doing so. The online company doesn’t need a store or a warehouse to stock every product a potential client would need. All they need to do is to partner with various companies or vendors of products and agree on the mode of operation and delivery in case a client identifies what he or she wants. This eliminates the idea of hopping from one store to another especially if they are far apart.
4. Creation of Employment.
A direct consequence of technology use is streamlining and consolidation of Job Descriptions (JDs). Many will argue technology reduces the number of jobs but on the flip side, it does create employment. The most outstanding attribute of these JD’s is efficiency. Jobs created courtesy of technology improves the rate of efficiency hence a step forward in improving service delivery.
Conclusion
Technology is here to stay, it will continue to evolve and will change our lives whether we like it or not. The convenience of saving time, energy, and resources coupled with efficiency is unrivaled making shopping and accessing other services less demanding.
Great piece
